If you have read some of my other Teach Me Tuesday posts, then you will know that I LOVE to upcycle other things into a new thing… especially clothing! Clothes can be given new life as something else if you put a little creativity into it.
Today, I am showing you how to take one shirt that is stretchy like a t-shirt or something similar and make it into 3 headbands. You don’t need to sew or glue anything just tie some knots and you are good to go. This is also a great way for a child who is learning how to tie knots to practice and make their own headbands for the summer.
Headband #1: The Turban Style Headband
Pick out your shirt
Cut a 3″ strip from one side of the shirt to the other
Take the strip and stretch it a litte bit
Cross the strip creating an Infinity or Figure 8
Twist the center again
Bring the 2 ends together to create the headband
Wear the heaband and enjoy!

Stretch each strip until the edges curl in
Gather the strips, take one strip, wrap it around te others and knot. Be sure to do this evenly to use this strip to braid with.
Tape the knotted end onto a table
Take 3 strips and braid.
Take one strip, wrap around the other 2
Knot the 3 strips then repeat with the other 3 strips.
Knot the 2 braid ends together
Take one set of braid ends, insert through the loops of the other end of the braids and knot.
